In front of a panel of senior instructors, we evaluate how far a student has progressed and award an applicable kyu or ranking, which traditionally is worn proudly in terms of a belt.
Each student is aware of the techniques they will be required to perform matching the grade they are hoping to achieve.Much like any sport, we encourage our students to undertake training away from the class. Gradings are a way to recognise students for improvement in their knowledge and technique.
We hold 4 gradings in the Darling Downs areas throughout the course of the calendar year. Each grading requires the student to demonstrate the progress that they have made since the last time that they attended a grading. Initially the grading tests only basic techniques but as the student progresses into the higher ranks they are required to demonstrate advanced Kata and free-sparring. Refer to the Calendar on this page for the next AKK grading day.
